Brazil and Argentina replayed the Copa America wheelchair basketball final third-place clash at Cali 2017 in Colombia, with the Brazilians also coming off the court victorious 48-29.
The women’s national team will compete for the bronze medal after losing to the USA 68-30 on Sunday. The first quarter started very evenly, with both defenses excelling on offense. But, little by little, the Brazilians began to make more offensive passes and opened up an advantage on the scoreboard, 15-11.
Before the break, the hosts came close to opening a 10-point difference, but then the Argentines came back to balance the confrontation with most of the Brazilians’ rebounds and errors. With that, the score of 27 to 23 kept the fight open.
In the third and fourth periods, the Brazilian team improved in the marks with some changes of coach Rogerio Pinheiro and, thus, began to increase the score difference. By the time the timer ran out, the Brazilians had managed to maintain an average 10-point lead and claim the win and the classification 57 to 45.
– Brazil and Argentina will be domed even in a button game. There was a lot of contact, their players were trying to take our psychology and vice versa. But in the end we managed to impose our game and get the classification. Now we are going to work to be among the top 10 teams in the world. It will be a big step for us, said Rogerio Pineiro, coach of the Brazilian women’s team.
