Patense Paraolympic Association’s wheelchair basketball team will be the only representative of Minas Gerais in the Brazilian 1st Division Championship. The Patos de Minas team has achieved good results this 2022 and, in addition to entering the national elite of the sport, is also in the finals of the Mineiro Championship.
Last month, the championship of the second division of Brazil was held in São Paulo. The APP wheelchair basketball team was among the finalists of the tournament and entered the first division. The Patense team will be the sole representative of Minas Gerais in 2023. The APP women’s team was already qualified for the competition.
APP is now starting to think about reinforcements for the coming year. But ahead of Brazil’s First Division championship contention, Patense’s team has one more challenge. On October 18, 19 and 20, the finals of the wheelchair basketball championship of Minas Gerais will be held in the city of Uberaba. APP is undefeated with no loss in the first two rounds of the tournament.
Rayson Douglas is an APP athlete and one of the highlights of a team that remains undefeated in Minas Gerais this year. According to him, the results are the result of hard work and dedication of the entire cast. The athlete from Pernambuco arrived in Patos de Minas in 2018 and has adapted very well to the city and the group that has formed the Patense Paralympic Association.
Leonardo Gonçalves, who is one of the creators and head of the Patens Paralympic Association, highlighted the work being done in Patos de Minas. According to him, the first division classification will further strengthen the entity and make room for the inclusion of new sports such as swimming, table tennis and bocce. He extended an invitation to the Patenses to participate in the Association that changes lives through sports.
