The main national school sports event for 12- to 14-year-old schoolchildren already has an official date. The Brazilian School Games (JEB’s) will take place from October 31 to November 14 in Rio de Janeiro. After a 17-year break, the competition, which was resumed in 2021, brought together more than five thousand students from 27 federal units.
For 2022, the idea is for the program to be held in 17 seasons, most of which are played at the Barra Olympic Park facility in the state capital. Elections are already over in several states. More than 6,300 athletes and 1,900 people between technical committees and directors are expected to participate.
The forecast is for 12 individual sports (athletics, badminton, karate, cycling, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, wrestling and chess) and five collective (basketball, futsal, handball, volleyball) and the beach). Registration deadlines and sporting conditions will be announced in the coming days by the Brazilian School Sports Confederation (CBDE), the organizer of the event.
Athlete Scholarship and School Sports Allowance
The results of the 2022 Brazil School Games will serve to nominate medalists for the student category of the Bolsa Atleta, a program aimed at high-level sports of the Special Secretariat of Sports of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
For athletes who belong to vulnerable families registered with Auxílio Brasil, the competition, as in 2021, also serves as a parameter for the nomination of Auxílio Esporte Escolar.
Auxílio Esporte Escolar provides 12 pieces of R$100 to encourage children to continue playing sports and an annual payment of R$1,000 per family. This is in addition to the minimum amount of R$600 that each family in the program is entitled to on a monthly basis. In 2021, a total of 1,405 student-athletes received benefits.
The results of the School Games will also form the basis for determining the delegation that will represent Brazil at the South American School Games, scheduled to be held in Brasilia (DF) at the end of 2022.
