With its 39th edition, the JESP (Student Games of the Motherland Week) is already reaching the halfway stage of the competition in Guarapuava. This Wednesday (31) the swimming competitions started at the Aquacentro and the judo bouts at the Antigo Campo do Pavão sports gymnasium. 208 people participated in both competitions in the event organized by the Department of Sports and Recreation. Contestants are students from public and private schools in Guarapuava.

Judoka Mariana Lourenço Javari Costa, 9, who has participated in other JESP editions, represented Escola Aldeia do Sol. “Very well, I have participated in several championships. So this one is easy for me so far. It went really well. Now he has to fight for another medal. It’s exciting,” said the excited girl.

“After two years without games, we are excited for the thirty-ninth edition of the competition. This year we started with table tennis for kids, which is a zero group. They are athletes born in 2012. Tomorrow we follow the order in groups. The table tennis competitions last until Thursday,” explained Guarapuava coach Felipe Curhan.

“It’s been really good here. The municipality always promotes the JESP every year. We are excited to participate. Every time this happens, it helps to make the sport stronger and more present here in the city, forming several champions, both from Paraná and from the municipality. We are always here,” said Naiara Dessen, a technician at Colégio Santa Terezinha.

And this Thursday (01) the competitions will continue from 8:30 am, with Swimming Group 03 at Aquacentro. And on Friday (02) at 13:30, the official opening of JESP will be at the Joaquim Prestes Sports Gym.
