AZ Araraquara returns to action this Friday (12th) at 19:30 when they take on Bauru Basket at the Press Kuker gymnasium in Bauru for the fourth round of the Paulista Men’s Special Division Basketball Championship.
Ararat defeated Corinthians 79-72 in the tournament at Jinacio do Sessi, where they lost 98-78 to defending champion Sesi Franca of Brazil in the second round.
In the third round, AZ Araraquara went to São Paulo FC Gym, Jardim Leonor, São Paulo, where they beat São Paulo (10) 102:66 this Wednesday. The main players of Sao Paulo were Miller – 25 points, Tyrone – 20 and Betinho – 20 points. As part of the Ararat team, pivot Abner scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Araraquara’s next commitment is this Saturday (13th) at 4:00pm at home to rival Monte Alto in a regional qualifier. The next challenge for Paulista will be against Rio Claro on August 21 at 17:00 at the Ginásio do Sesi.
AZ Araraquara was officially launched in January this year by the Municipality of Araraquara through Fundesport and in partnership with the AZ Colégio e Cursos educational network in Ribeirao Preto and more than 350 schools in Brazil. Other supporting companies are Multifisio, Nova Era, Empório do Corpo and Alto Uruguai Restaurant.
The team led by coach Fabio Apolinario has already participated in two competitions this season: they were fourth in the Brazilian Championship of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) and runner-up in the São Paulo Basketball Cup. At the moment, the team also competes in the Regional Games.
