After 10 years, the municipality of Joao Pessoa returns to host the Municipal School Olympics

The Municipality of João Pessoa, through the Department of Education and Culture (Sedec), will once again host the Municipal School Olympic Games, which will take place from September 12 to 30. More than two thousand students from 49 schools of the city educational network will participate in the games. The opening will take place this Monday (12) at 15:00 in the Praça do Povo of the José Lins do Rêgo cultural area, in the Tambauzinho district.

The games are organized by the team of the Department of Physical Education, Health and School Sports (Dephiz). “The return of these games was a campaign commitment of Mayor Cicero Lucena. It has been 10 years without this wonderful event of reconciliation with the educational process, using sport as a means of physical education for recreation and building a good citizen,” said Theodan Stevenson, director of Defise.

There will be eight sports: athletics, judo, swimming, paralympic bocce, handball, volleyball, futsal and basketball. The Olympics are also a gateway for discovering the sporting talent available in schools, in addition to promoting socio-cultural and sporting exchanges between participants.

competition venues – Athletics events will take place at Vila Olímpica Parahyba, Bairro dos Estados; Judo and Paralympic bocce will be held in the multi-sport gymnasium of the Municipal Administrative Center (CAM) of Agua Fria; and swim in the CAM pool.

The team sports will take place in the gymnasium of the teaching units and the Municipal School of the Integration of Pedagogical Activities (Cemapi) of Arthur da Costa Freire of Mangabeira.

Opening – Participating schools must parade for the honor committee, paying attention to the theme; “Joao Pessoa, a city that cares through education and sport.” Prizes will be awarded to the three schools that have performed the best parade in terms of organization, discipline, relevance to thematic context, creativity and punctuality.

Elementary I and EJA – An event called “Children’s Games” will be held for elementary school students, where students up to 10 years of age will participate. For Youth and Adult Education (EJA) only men’s and women’s futsal mode will be accepted.
